Pet Paintings

Pet animals are useful and important. They have guarded our flocks from predators, our houses from intruders, and they have kept us company when alone. They are automatically moral; unlike humans which through free will can elect to choose evil at times, animals have no choice, and always pursue good, instinctively. They increase happiness, and so often emotional bonds are created between a pet owner and the pet. Therefore we create paintings of your pets, in tribute to them but also as tools to greater understanding of them.

A painting is different from a photograph in that photographs passively record, whereas a painting was an active re-creation. Photographs record every detail, whereas paintings essentialize, and highlight the most important attributes. Therefore a painting of a pet can give you what a photo cannot, just as a novel can give you what a news story cannot. So through a painting of something you can often understand it better than you could otherwise.

You should consider a portrait of your pet if you are especially fond of it, if you wish to remember it after its death (unfortunately their lives are not as long as ours), and if you wish to understand the nature of the automatically good.
