Immortal Defense, our story-based tower defense strategy game, is now available at whatever price you'd like to pay for it (with a minimum of $1.75 to cover fees).
This is not a sale, but a test of using this model as a permanent price. We may switch back some time in the future if it doesn't work as well, but we do like this model and hope that it can work as the standard price for indie games, as it has with Jason Rohrer's Sleep is Death.
Please help us make this model successful by spreading the word on this news.
Immortal Defense: Now Pay-Whatever-You-Want
The game was first $22.95 and now it's only $1.75 minimal. I think much people will pay the minimal prize, but some will also pay more to support you.
I don't think the fees cost $1.75, because paypal takes only $0.30 and 2.9% of the prize. FastSpring, the payment processor, costs 5.9% plus $.95 or 8.9% flat per transaction and paypal is included I think. So you would get $1,59, as profit. Not that you don't deserve it. I think the game is worth it, especially if you compare it to the old prize: $22.95. If this game costed $22.95 and the pre-set prize is now $17.00, you know it's a great game! :D
the fees also include
the fees also include hosting (bandwidth, domain name) and things like that: the newsletter service i use, the self-employment tax, those things all add up. so i'd still just about break even if everyone only paid $1.75. also remember that paypal fees apply several times: when i send money to the other members on the team, for instance. so there are a lot of fees that people don't consider, it's not just payment processing fees.
Another interesting thing
Another interesting thing about choosing to go to this pricing model: I already own this game. But it's inconveniently located on my old desktop, which is in storage. So, having decided I want to replay it, the pay-what's-fair model let me decide to just buy it again, for what I figure the privilege of not digging my old copy up again is worth.
Nice!
well, you could also just
well, you could also just have sent me an email asking for another download link (if you bought it from this site in the past)... but thanks for buying it twice anyway
Immortal Defense: Now Pay-Whatever-You-Want
I think this can be certainly transformed in a good sale and I am sure that the people will be interested to play it. We'll see the results in a short while.
